Must/Should/Want Method and Eisenhower Matrix were such great additions. Going forward, I'd like Lunatask to have at least 10+ opinionated workflows to choose from. So, what other workflows, techniques, and sets of sections would you like to see integrated into Lunatask as task list workflows?

To give a few ideas:

• Future plans / Ideas / Picks / Stuck / Finishing touches

• Backlog / Planned / Development / Testing / Release

• Sections based on effort (possibly "eat the frog" technique?)

• Today / Tomorrow / This Week / Next Week / Later

• ...

Can you come up with more?

I'm considering adding a new workflow named "Morning / Afternoon / Evening workflow". In this workflow, sections in the task list would be populated from the tasks on the calendar in the exact order they appear on the calendar.

Below these three part-of-day sections, you would have “now” and “later” sections. When dragging a task from “now” onto the calendar for 10 AM, the task would move into the “morning” section above. This way, one would not need to look at the calendar all the time throughout the day after they planned their day, as the task list would always mirror the order of tasks on the calendar in this workflow.

Additionally, you could use this workflow without using the calendar at all – you would simply drag and drop tasks into "morning" or "afternoon" sections.

Would you find such a workflow helpful? Would you change anything about this?

The reason for Lunatask not having end dates (only start dates or deferred dates) currently is that Lunatask prioritizes tasks for you, and it is unclear how end dates should affect prioritization. Feel free to share your ideas on how you would imagine due dates to work with the rest of the features of the tasks section and be visualized.

In the meantime, I'd recommend putting the deadline in the task name (i.e. Write a blog post (due 08/31)) and moving the task manually between "next"/"later" manually depending on where you want to have it.

Update: Goals (released in v1.7 in June 2023) come with support for due dates on goal level.

Add statistics, for example, on how many tasks were created/completed over time. But tell me, what information/data/charts would you be interested in?

Add tagging to tasks. I guess nothing else to say really.

For example, motivations (Must/Should/Want) replace task statuses in this workflow. Hence this and some other workflows currently do not allow marking a task as waiting.

What the title says :)

When one plans their day, for example, by moving tasks from "later" into "now", we could offer an option to print their next tasks on paper, so one can have them on their desk in front of them.

Lunatask's calendar currently allows time-blocking only for today or tomorrow.

Sync time-blocked tasks and habits back to Google, Outlook, or another calendar.

This one is a bit tricky. Such functionality would typically be implemented server-side (Lunatask servers talking, for example, Google servers). However, since Lunatask is an end-to-end encrypted privacy-focused app, our servers do not have access to your data. Therefore, they cannot share it with other apps or sync it to other services like Google Calendar.

Such functionality could, in theory, be implemented client-side, but then, of course, all sorts of variables have to be taken care of. For example, you might be offline on a bus commuting to work when planning your day on the calendar, so robust offline support and later sync would have to be implemented, etc. Also, Lunatask supports many different calendar providers, so this would be pretty complex to implement this way.

There's an alternative approach we could take and offer a iCal/ics feed you could subscribe to in your calendar app. Encryption would be solved similarly as Proton Calendar does – the decryption key would be embedded in the feed URL. Lunatask servers would decrypt the data in-memory, and return it as the response. Would that work for you?

Our Google, Outlook, or iCloud calendar integrations all fetch calendar colors from an external calendar service. However, our Proton and iCal/ics feed-based integrations do not receive them, and events coming from these integrations will use our default blue color. To get around these protocol limitations, we can offer a color picker so users can assign colors manually to each calendar/integration.

Add pausing and the option to add additional minutes to task timers. Useful, for example, when you get interrupted by someone, etc.

Time tracking like Toggl in Lunatask. Useful for insights into your productivity or for freelancers working for and billing multiple clients. This could be implemented as a native feature of Lunatask or as an integration with existing time-tracking apps like Toggl or Clockify.

On the iOS lock screen and on Dynamic Island as well on newer iOS devices.

Currently, there's only one mood or energy level per day.

Allow analyzing your data to see which habits affect your mood/energy and how, calculate correlations, etc. to help to answer questions like "does taking a food supplement X has any effect on me?"

Allow skipping an occurrence of the habit without breaking the streak. Sometimes you might be at a place for a day where the habit is not relevant. You might want to mark the occurrence as skipped and possibly provide a note of why you were not able to complete the habit.

Currently, Lunatask provides 72 feelings or emotions to choose from in the mood tracker. However, it might be cool also to allow custom ones.

Also, let me know if you miss some specific emotions in the list, why you find them useful, and I'll add them in the meantime 🙏

Allow adding of trackers of any type (number, dropdown, percentage, etc.) as one might want to track different things, i.e. how many hours one slept.

The ability to attach a note or description to habits. Tell me, what would you use this for?

We could use the same rules engine and natural language parser powering recurring tasks.

Add a Public API to track mood, energy levels, and emotions.

Currently, there's only one journal in Lunatask where all journal entries live and besides dates, there's no other ability to structure them. What means of structuring your journal entries would work for you and why?

Allow importing journal entries from other tools or using some other means.

Add the ability to share the journal or selected journal entries. Due to journal entries being end-to-end encrypted in Lunatask, the solution would probably be generating a PDF locally that you could then print or forward via email to someone. Or would you imagine this working differently?

While our journal entries are tied to specific dates, it might be helpful for some to also track a particular time of day (hour and minute) on each journal entry. Tell me, what would you use this for, and why do you find it useful?

You can currently customize the template with which new journal entries are initialized. However, it could be useful to have the option to create multiple templates for different kinds of journal entries and then later pick which one to use.

The PIN can currently be only four digits. Having the option to choose a 6-digit (or 8-digit) PIN would increase security.

Allow notes to link to other notes and see what notes link to the current one. And if we already have this for notes, let's allow linking tasks in notes, and vice-versa.

Allow file attachments in notes.

Currently, notes in Lunatask use the default system font of whatever platform you're on. However, this might not be the nicest or most readable choice on some platforms, some people might prefer serif font in notes, etc.

Show the note length in words or characters. Possibly, make it also available on journal entries.

Currently, the search searches only names of entities like tasks, notes, and journal entries.

Allow importing notes from other tools.

Update: Notes can now be created using our API, see https://lunatask.app/api for more information 🙇

Allow embedding images in notes, journal entries, and task descriptions.

Implementing end-to-end encrypted file uploads in multi-platform encrypted apps like Lunatask is not trivial. Due to development and maintenance complexity, this feature is not on the roadmap for the next six months.

As a temporary workaround, the option to embed images from remote URLs (including Dropbox folders) is coming shortly in the v2.1 update dedicated to notes and our Markdown editor.

Inline tables support in notes and task descriptions.

Highlight syntax in the attached code block, given the programming language used.

Markdown text from the clipboard will be correctly parsed and formatting preserved.

Highlight incorrectly spelled words and offer corrections.

Tip: In the meantime, we are using Grammarly for Desktop. It works well within Lunatask (at least on my Mac).

Show upcoming birthdays and anniversaries in the calendar sidebar in the tasks section of the app as all-day events.

Lunatask currently shows and informs you about upcoming birthdays. It would be nice if it could do the same for other kinds of anniversaries.

Currently, you have to specify a year to be able to track someone's birthday. But you might know only a day and month.

Add "another person" custom field type allowing you to, for example, have fields for spouses, children, etc who are also other people in the relationship tracker.

Allow integration of relationship tracking with the tasks section of the app. For example, you might be able to assign people to tasks in the tasks section. Those tasks would then also show up in the person detail sidebar in the relationship tracker. Vice-versa you could create tasks there directly too, and they would show up in the tasks section of the app. Or would you design this feature differently?

Add support for custom avatars.

Note: Lunatask currently does not support uploading or embedding images in general, as any image upload functionality would require uploaded images to be end-to-end encrypted as well, which isn't trivial. Therefore, initial support for custom avatars would probably be using external avatars (for example, profile photos from Facebook, Gravatar, etc.).

Currently, one can add formatting, headings, lists, checklists, etc. in notes and text fields in the relationship tracker using Markdown, but it might be nice to show a formatting toolbar as well.

Allow importing people from Facebook.

Allow importing people from Google Contacts.

Allow importing people using CardDAV protocol.

Allow importing people from LinkedIn.

To mirror similar functionality available in other apps, so you can quickly add tasks from anywhere, inside and even outside of the app.

For Mac or iOS users: You can easily build a global add window using Shortcuts and trigger it using Spotlight. There are also community extensions for Alfred and Raycast.

Tell us, what widgets would you like to see supported on your mobile home screen?

Update (November 2024): Lunatask for iOS and Android released on October currently do not offer widgets, and we will have to wait for them a little longer. Due to technical limitations like our app being a React Native app, encryption being involved, etc, they are not on the roadmap for the next six months.

Connect your JIRA account and see all tickets assigned to you directly in your task list. When the ticket is closed, the corresponding task will be marked as complete.

Automate the integration and connect any other tool with Lunatask via IFTTT.

Make.com is an automation platform and alternative to Zapier or IFTTT.

Allow pushing individual messages and even whole Slack threads as tasks into Lunatask. This is currently possible to achieve only via Zapier.

Is there any other service you would like to see integrated with Lunatask?

Similar to email integration for creating tasks from forwarded emails, we could add email integration to create notes in the notes section of the app.

Allow running Lunatask on the web. Tell me why you would prefer the web version over desktop and mobile apps.

Snaps and AppImages are cool, but Flatpak might be preferred by some users.

Update: Flatpak support is on my radar but not on the roadmap for the next few months. The main reason is that flatpak support in the build tool used to build Lunatask for Desktop is limited and flatpak builds produced by it cannot be uploaded to repositories like Flathub, nor does the built-in app updater work in these builds. But I keep my eyes on this, in case electron-builder guys improve flatpak support in the future.

Currently, both snap and AppImage versions of Lunatask for Linux are built for x64 architectures only.

Windows and Mac versions of Lunatask already do this.

Although your data like task names, notes, or journal entries in Lunatask is by default encrypted on the client before it is sent to be stored in our cloud, we're also considering open-sourcing Lunatask server to allow you to self-host your own instance having complete ownership and control of your data.

Artificial Intelligence is all the buzz at the moment. Would you like to see a generative AI available directly in Lunatask? What could it do for you? What would you use it for, and how would you imagine it to be integrated?

Lunatask already has many ADHD-friendly features like our automatic prioritization, Must/Should/Want grouping, mood tracker and daily journal, or the habit widget next to your task list, so you don't miss on any of your habits even if you forget to check your habit tracker.

However, I believe we can always do more. Tell me, how could we make Lunatask even more ADHD-friendly?

One usually has a lot of data stored in Lunatask and interacts with the app daily. Imagine a dashboard with various statistics. What statistics, charts, or data would you like to see there?

Add gamification and leveling elements to the app. For example, one would collect points for completed tasks or habits and could see how many points they need to get to the next level.

This opens exciting possibilities – for example, one might also be able to set the reward for each task (higher number of points for more challenging tasks), etc.

What else playful could we do with it? Feel free to share your ideas!

Lunatask currently has optional PIN/password protection on the level of individual notebooks and the journal. Would you find it useful to have the option to lock access to the whole app? Similar to how you unlock, for example, your password manager (like 1Password) when accessing it.

Lunatask currently has a browser bookmarklet allowing you to save web links and articles as tasks in Lunatask. However, we could build a separate solution for Pocket-style reading lists into Lunatask as a separate item in the menu (with a browser extension, extracting article content in reader-style view like Safari does, etc).

Localize dates across the app to the user's system language/region. As many of us are not native English speakers, it might take us more time to visually parse the English date format.

Add the option to choose a 6-digit PIN instead of a 4-digit one to improve security and privacy.

Allow zooming in the desktop app's interface to improve accessibility and readability.

Workaround for Linux users: Alternatively, you can run Lunatask from the terminal with this flag: lunatask --force-device-scale-factor=1.5

The --force-device-scale-factor flag is a Chromium flag, so it will most likely work in most Electron-based apps.

Currently, Lunatask apps are available only in English. Let me know into which language you'd like to see the apps translated.

Add an option to reduce motion and animations to accommodate those with motion sensitivities.

Some languages (e.g. Hebrew, Arabic) type from right to left.

To provide the service to you, Lunatask does not need nor want to necessarily know who you are. However, our existing payment providers (Paddle and Apple) still require you to provide billing information that is linked to you (like a credit card). Enabling payments in crypto would allow you to use the app and all its features while remaining anonymous.
